Rolling the Thankful Dice

Rolling the Thankful Dice

Our family created a mini tradition for celebrating our Thanksgiving meal through the use of the Scattergories game dice.

If you have played the game, the multifaceted dice consists of most letters of the alphabet.  During our meal we pass the dice around the table taking turns rolling it, and saying something we are thankful for that begins with that letter we roll.  A fun way to slow down, digest our feast, and reflect on things we can be grateful for, including that letters like Q, X and Z,  are not on the dice :-)

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, we are instructed “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”   I’m sure you’ve heard it said that the emphasis in this verse is the word ‘in’ rather than ‘for’ everything.

There are a lot of things in life that go awry that we don’t want to be thankful for.  However, with our heart fully trusting God ‘in everything,’ we can give Him thanks knowing that His will for us will be accomplished.  Gratitude then becomes the posture of our heart in all circumstances of life.

Thanksgiving Day brings an opportunity to be intentional about giving thanks to God and others for the blessings we enjoy and often take for granted.

Whether you roll a dice or not, I encourage you to take time to thank God and extend thanks to your family and friends.

Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving!
